This rare Darjeeling oolong tea has a pure character, in that the AV2 leaves undergo very little processing after being harvested. After the newly sprouted leaves have been plucked, they are withered in the sun for a few hours to reduce moisture. Once suitable suppleness is achieved in the leaves, a delicate sideways rolling action is performed by hands. The leaves are minimally oxidized and maintain a vibrant green color. Beyond this, the leaves are only slightly curled after the oxidation stage, then dried. So, one can easily relate this to Baozhong Teas.
The result of this minimal processing method is that the original, fresh green leaf character is preserved. This rare Darjeeling oolong tea has an especially aromatic profile, with a fresh green character, yet with just enough oxidation to give it balance and substance. It is easily distinguished from its Green Tea cousins, but also stands clearly apart from High Mountain Tea and other traditionally made Oolongs. The taste was super floral and creamy with notes of orchids in each sip. It was slightly vegetal but in a sweet, almost buttery way and there was no bitterness or astringency at all. The mouthfeel was somewhat thick with a clean and refreshing finish.
