The best Darjeeling first flush tea, also known as the ‘Queen Of All Teas’, is produced from Gopaldhara Tea Estate. The bushes are fresh out of hibernation from a prolonged winter of four months, from December to March. The first flush yields 100% growing shoots and excellent buds with either a single leaf or two leaves and a bud. The flavor is prominent as the weather is dry and cool, ensuring the slow growth of the bushes.
The tea leaves are plucked with great care by hand, ensuring only the best shoots with prominent buds are harvested. The plucking is of such fine quality that the tea can only be hand-sorted, and the machines used to make the tea are very few in number. Next, the leaves undergo a mild oxidation process to ensure all the exquisite flavors are prominently present. Then they are gently rolled, which helps them open up in the pot when brewed.
The dry leaves are greenish with lots of tips which results in a smooth and perfectly balanced cup. It brews into a light yellow liquor reminiscent of the freshness of Darjeeling hills. Each sip imparts a fruity and sweet clean flavor. The tea is smooth with no astringency and has the taste of significantly matured and fruity tea.
